Magical Madaba

On our journey to the Dead Sea we visited Madaba and celebrated Mass in a beautiful church named: The shrine dedicated to the Beheading of St John the Baptist. We prayerfully remembered the the diocese of Christchurch at Mass with St John the Baptist being our patron Saint.

This church built in 1913 was built over top of the original church built in 1883 and you can travel down to the Acropolis and view the old rooms and ancient tunnels.

Bus break on the way to the Dead Sea.

This is Wadi Mujib, known as the Jordanian Grand Canyon.

In Madaba we visited St George's Greek Orthodox Church. This early byzantine church has a large detailed mosaic map on the floor of the holy land dating back to the 6th century AD.

Some of us finished off a busy day with a soak in the salty Dead Sea.
